Clinical Psychologist

Mary Doheny
I am an Illinois licensed clinical psychologist who has been in practice for
more than 30 years.
For the past five years I was on staff at Northwestern’s Family Institute, serving as a psychotherapist and clinical supervisor. While also maintaining a private practice I was formerly the Coordinator of Training for psychology students, residents and staff at the Emergency and Psychotherapy Program of the Institute of Psychiatry at Northwestern. Prior to that, I was the Director of Northwestern’s Intensive Psychiatric Care Program, working with patients whodemonstrated pathology that was severe, chronic and refractory to prior treatment. Throughout my career I have also been an adjunct clinical professor in Northwestern Memorial Hospital’s Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Science, teaching psychotherapeutic technique and diagnosis and supervising students, psychology residents and post-doctoral fellows.
In 1977 I received my Ph.D. in clinical psychology from Loyola University of Chicago. I pursued postdoctoral training in psychoanalysis from the Chicago Center for Psychoanalytic Psychology. Subsequently, I was the Deputy Director of the Adolescent Inpatient Program at the Illinois State Psychiatric Institute, a psychodynamically-oriented program with three hospital units, a therapeutic school and an outpatient department. Given my commitment to personal and professional growth, I have been a member of several ongoing seminars, study groups, and supervision groups focusing on intensive psychodynamic therapy.
